As an RV host, providing an exceptional rental experience involves understanding how to optimize pricing, offering convenient delivery options, and managing distance charges. This guide aims to help hosts enhance their offerings by detailing the benefits and logistics of RV delivery, the suggested pricing strategies for delivery and add-ons, and options for mileage charges.
Delivery
Offering delivery for RVs can significantly enhance the rental experience for guests and increase your bookings. Delivery provides unmatched convenience, allowing guests who may not be experienced in towing or prefer not to handle an RV themselves to enjoy their trip worry-free. This service particularly benefits those renting towable RVs like travel trailers and fifth wheels. By offering RV delivery, you can increase your potential guest pool by 40% and maximize bookings.
To add delivery services to your listing, navigate to the Pricing section and enable the delivery option. You can set parameters such as:
- Max Delivery Distance (One-Way)*: Set the maximum distance you’re willing to deliver your RV.
- Price Per Kilometer/Mile: Select a rate to charge for delivery based on one-way distance. In the US, a range of $3 to $4 per mile is recommended, while in Canada, $1.50 to $2.50 per kilometer is suggested.
- Minimum Delivery Fee: Establish a baseline fee for delivery, ensuring you are compensated fairly even for short distances. The system will default to the higher of the per distance fee or this minimum.
* Your guests pay per km/mile for only a single leg of your trip. You will be paid for the distance you drive to drop off the RV. But, not the other legs of your journey.
Add-Ons
After completing your RV listing, you can customize your add-ons to set personalized offerings by editing your listing. Head to your listing in the RVezy app, and click the three dots to Edit Listing. From there, find the Add-ons section.
There are a series of pre-made add-ons you can choose to use, such as airport pick-up, linens, septic pre-payment, and more. You also have the option to create up to 10 custom add-ons if you wish to provide a service that is not already included in the pre-made add-ons. You can set the description of your custom add-on as well as its price, and decide whether you want to charge per trip or per night.
Hosts can charge for various extras and services beyond the standard rental fee. Setting the right price can be challenging, but some guidelines can assist:
- Review competitive listings for comparable offerings.
- Consider the time it will take to complete the service or prepare the add-on
- Consider the value of the item, how much will it cost to replace
- Take a guest perspective, how much would you be willing to pay for the additional service?
Offering add-ons can enhance the guest experience and improve your income, but it's crucial to ensure your prices align with market expectations and guest readiness to pay.
Mileage
If you are listing a motorhome, you can decide whether you want to charge guests for the distance they drive during their trip, or if you want to offer them unlimited mileage. Mileage is not available for trailers.
In your listing, you can set a daily distance limit and a fee for any additional distance traveled beyond that limit. Under the Pricing section of your listing, scroll down to Mileage to set your limit.
For US hosts, the distance will appear in miles. For Canadian hosts, it will appear in kilometres.
We suggest that you provide an adequate amount of daily kilometres/miles to accommodate your guests as much as possible. This is usually around 125-200 miles or 200-300km. For additional kilometers/miles, we recommend charging $0.35/km or mile.
You can also decide to offer unlimited mileage by toggling on this option.
