If damage occurs during your RV rental, an insurance claim may be opened by the host. While guests cannot open insurance claims themselves, it’s helpful to understand how the process works and what to expect if a claim involves your booking. This guide explains your role, how charges are handled, and how claims are reviewed.
Who can open an insurance claim
Insurance claims are opened by the host, not the guest. If the host reports damage related to your trip, they may submit a claim through RVezy’s insurance provider for review.
You do not need to take action to open a claim, but you may be contacted if additional information is required.
What happens when a claim is opened
When a host opens an insurance claim, the process begins with a review of the reported damage. At this stage:
- Your security deposit authorization is captured
- The claim is reviewed by a claims advisor
- Additional details, photos, or documentation may be requested
The purpose of this review is to determine whether the damage is eligible for coverage.
How the deductible is handled
The deductible is the amount you are responsible for paying toward a covered loss before insurance coverage begins. When damage occurs during a booking, the cost of repairs is first applied to the deductible associated with the protection plan you selected.
If a claim is approved and a deductible applies, charges are handled in two parts:
- First, your security deposit is applied toward the deductible
- If the security deposit does not cover the full deductible, the remaining amount may be charged after the claims advisor completes their review
It is important to know that a separate deductible applies to every unique incident that occurs during your trip. An incident, or cause of loss, is defined as a specific event that directly results in damage to the RV. Even if all damage is reported in a single claim, we must apply one deductible per distinct event.
For example, imagine you hit another vehicle while parking, which causes damage to the bumper of the RV. Later that same day, a separate mishap at the campsite results in damage to the awning. Because these are two separate incidents with different causes, two deductibles would apply to the overall insurance claim.
Communicating during the claim process
If a claim is opened on your booking, you will be contacted for clarification or additional information. Responding promptly can help move the review process forward.

Understanding how the insurance claim process works helps set clear expectations if damage occurs during your trip. While claims can feel stressful, the review process is designed to assess situations fairly and according to the protection plan in place.
