Insurance & protection

Understand protection plans, insurance coverage, and deductible levels.

  • Understanding the insurance claim process as a guest

If damage occurs during your RV rental, an insurance claim may be opened by the host. While guests cannot open insurance claims themselves, it’s helpful to understand how the process works and what to expect if a claim involves your booking. This guide explains your role, how charges are handled, and how claims are reviewed.

Who can open an insurance claim

Insurance claims are opened by the host, not the guest. If the host reports damage related to your trip, they may submit a claim through RVezy’s insurance provider for review.

You do not need to take action to open a claim, but you may be contacted if additional information is required.

What happens when a claim is opened

When a host opens an insurance claim, the process begins with a review of the reported damage. At this stage:

    • Your security deposit authorization is captured
    • The claim is reviewed by a claims advisor
    • Additional details, photos, or documentation may be requested

The purpose of this review is to determine whether the damage is eligible for coverage.

    How the deductible is handled

If a claim is approved and a deductible applies, charges are handled in two parts:

    • First, your security deposit is applied toward the deductible
    • If the security deposit does not cover the full deductible, the remaining amount may be charged after the claims advisor completes their review

Any charges are based on the deductible associated with the protection plan selected for your booking.

    Communicating during the claim process

If a claim is opened on your booking, you will be contacted for clarification or additional information. Responding promptly can help move the review process forward.

If you have questions about how a claim affects your booking, you can reach out to RVezy’s support team for general guidance.

Understanding how the insurance claim process works helps set clear expectations if damage occurs during your trip. While claims can feel stressful, the review process is designed to assess situations fairly and according to the protection plan in place.

  • RVezy renter protection plans - in detail

RVezy offers protection plans that Renters can purchase to help reduce their financial responsibility in the event of damage to the Owner’s RV. These plans are not insurance, but rather a contractual agreement outlining the potential for coverage for some or all of the Renter’s responsibility to pay for eligible on-trip physical damage.

RVezy protection plans also include optional additional benefits, such as roadside assistance, trip interruption coverage, and vehicle rental support.

    Renter responsibilities

As the Renter, you are responsible for:

    • Returning the RV on time and in the same condition as it was when you received it;
    • Paying costs to repair physical damage to the RV during the rental period, including but not limited to collision, comprehensive events, or theft, including related costs, regardless of fault; and
    • Paying the actual cash value (ACV) of the RV if it is declared a total loss due to physical damage, minus any salvage value.

RVezy’s protection plans do not cover interior or mechanical damage. Renters are responsible for the cost of the repair or replacement of interior or mechanical damage, as well as any related costs incurred during the trip. Financial responsibility limitations under the Basic, Standard, Premium, Stationary, and Stationary Plus plans do not apply to interior or mechanical damage.

Normal wear and tear or mechanical breakdowns not caused by neglect or misuse by the Renter are not the Renter’s responsibility.

How renters can protect themselves - physical damages

    • Select and purchase one of RVezy’s available protection plans to limit out-of-pocket expenses for eligible physical damage.
    • Take photos documenting the RV’s condition at the start and end of the rental period to help prevent disputes over damage responsibility.
    • Do a pre and post-rental inspection with the Owner and complete the related documents.

Third-party loss excess liability insurance coverage

All RVezy rentals include third-party liability coverage that meets state minimum requirements in the U.S., and provides up to $2 million CAD in third-party liability coverage for RVs registered in Canada. This policy offers secondary (excess) coverage, meaning that any personal auto and/or other liability insurance held by the Renter will apply first before RVezy’s coverage takes effect.

    Primary vs. excess coverage

The third-party loss liability insurance provided is secondary (excess) to any other applicable coverage the Renter may have. If a Renter has a personal auto insurance policy and/or any other liability insurance that may apply, such policy(s) will take precedence over RVezy’s coverage.

In the event of a loss claim, Renters must first file with their personal or commercial liability insurance provider. If their claim is denied, they must provide RVezy with a copy of the denial letter and any relevant documentation for further assistance.

    Coverage for physical damage

Renters may have coverage for physical damage under their own auto insurance policies. Even if their personal auto liability insurance does not apply to a specific third-party liability claim, their coverage for physical damage may still be valid and will be primary.

By booking an RV through RVezy, the Renter agrees that if physical damage occurs during their rental period, they will work with RVezy to file a claim under any applicable insurance policy.

Protection plans available to limit out-of-pocket costs

The financial coverage provided through any of RVezy’s protection plans only applies if:

    • The Renter’s personal insurance coverage has been exhausted first.
    • The Renter and any approved secondary drivers adhere to RVezy’s Terms of Service and policies.
    • The damage falls under physical damage and not mechanical or interior damage.

Renters can choose from five protection plans:

    Basic

    • Designed for experienced RVers comfortable with a higher level of personal financial liability responsibility.
    • A popular choice for short trips and trailer rentals.

    Standard

    • Provides a balance of coverage and affordability.
    • The most recommended plan for typical trips.

    Premium

    • Ideal for first-time RVers, long trips, and motorhomes.
    • Offers the highest level of protection for added peace of mind.

    Stationary and Stationary Plus

    • Best suited for delivered RVs or stationary rentals.
    • Provides coverage at a lower rate since the RV is not being driven.

Important: Renters cannot assume that their personal auto insurance or credit card coverage applies to peer-to-peer RV rentals. It is highly recommended that Renters consult their insurance and/or credit card provider before booking an RV.

    Important considerations

    Know your coverage

    • If you have an auto insurance policy, review the details to determine what coverage applies when renting an RV.
    • Do not assume that personal insurance or credit card coverage will apply to an RV rental the same way it does for traditional rental vehicles.
    • Consult your insurance and/or credit card provider before selecting a protection plan.

    Terms of Service violations

If a Renter or any approved secondary driver violates RVezy’s Terms of Service, engages in prohibited activities, or misuses the RV, any protection plan’s financial responsibility will become void. In this case, the Renter will be fully responsible for any damages, including up to the actual cash value of the RV and all related costs.

    Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for protection under any of RVezy’s protection plans:

    • The operator of the RV must be an approved RVezy driver.
    • The Renter must sign the digital rental agreement before the start of the trip. The Renter must document the RV’s condition with time-stamped photos before and after the trip. The operator must comply with any and all local safety orders (e.g., evacuation orders).

    Exclusions

The following are not covered under RVezy’s protection plans as noted:

    • Awning damage (excluded in Basic plan)
    • Roof damage (coverage varies by plan)
    • Windshield damage (coverage varies by plan)
    • Damage occurring in prohibited travel areas
    • Incorrect fuel usage
    • Electrical damage due to incorrect voltage (e.g., 240V vs. 110V)
    • Failure to use a provided surge protector
    • Failure to use a provided water pressure regulator
    • Failure to properly secure the RV with provided wheel chocks
    • Damage due to improper use of leveling equipment

  • Understanding high-risk bookings

To help keep the RVezy community safe, we have measures in place to help identify and prevent bookings that are potentially higher risk. This designation is used when certain activity or information suggests an increased level of risk during the rental.

    How we assess risk

Our comprehensive verification system checks details such as name, address, government-issued ID, and more to confirm the identity of guests who book on RVezy. When guests attempt to make a booking, our screening system uses signals to determine whether the booking may carry a higher risk. Based on those results, your booking may be identified as posing a higher safety risk.

Why a booking or account may be flagged

A booking may be considered high risk for several reasons. These can include:

    • Inconsistencies or concerns with account or identity information
    • Payment-related issues or failed verification checks
    • Activity that doesn't align with RVezy's terms of service
    • Signals identified through automated risk assessments

    How high-risk status affects bookings

If your booking is flagged as high risk, it will be automatically cancelled. You will be notified by email and will receive a full refund. Currently, there is no way to appeal the cancellation of a booking due to high risk.

  • How protection works when you rent an RV

RVezy offers renter protection plans with varying coverage levels for eligible RV bookings, available only in supported regions. Protection applies during the active rental period and fees depend on the chosen plan. Each plan includes deductibles, and guests can select coverage that fits their needs.

When you book an RV on RVezy, protection is included as part of your reservation. Instead of offering insurance directly, RVezy provides renter protection plans that allow you to choose from different levels of coverage for your trip. This article explains how protection works, when it’s available, and how fees are applied.

    Protection during your rental

RVezy does not sell insurance directly. Instead, eligible bookings include access to renter protection plans, which provide coverage during your rental period. These plans are designed specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals and help protect both guests and hosts during confirmed trips.

Protection applies only for the duration of an active booking and only when the RV is used according to the listing rules and platform policies.

    When protection plans are available

Protection plans are available for RVs listed in an area where RVezy offers coverage. Eligibility depends on the location of the RV and whether coverage is supported in that region.

If an RV is listed in a region where RVezy does not offer protection plans, coverage will not be included with the booking. In those cases, the listing will indicate that protection is not provided through RVezy, and guests should review the listing carefully before booking.

You can learn more about eligibility requirements in this article.

    Paying for a protection plan

As a guest, you'll pay a protection plan fee as part of your booking when protection plans are available for the RV's location. The standard protection plan will apply by default, but you can change your selection throughout the booking process. If you are getting an RV delivered and won't be moving it, you'll automatically be defaulted to the stationary plan.

The fee varies based on the protection plan you select and reflects the level of coverage chosen for your trip.

    Choosing a protection plan

RVezy offers different protection plan options, allowing you to select the level of coverage that best fits your comfort and needs. Each plan outlines what's covered and what's excluded. For a full breakdown of how our protection plans work, you can view this article

    Deductibles and out-of-pocket costs

Each protection plan includes a deductible, which is the amount you may be responsible for if a covered claim occurs. Deductible amounts vary depending on the plan selected and the RV rented.

You can find more information about deductibles and how they work here: RVezy's Protection Plans: Everything You Need to Know. Keep in mind that the deductible amounts shown are a starting point. To confirm the exact deductible amount for your booking, refer to your rental agreement.

Protection plans are an important part of renting an RV through RVezy and help provide peace of mind while you’re on the road. Taking a few minutes to review your options ensures you know what to expect before your trip begins.
