The security deposit is an essential part of renting an RV through RVezy, designed to protect both guests and hosts during a rental. This temporary hold on your card acts as a safeguard for potential damages or insurance claims, ensuring a smooth and secure experience for everyone involved.
When a security deposit applies
Not all RVs require a security deposit, though most do. If a host has set a security deposit, the amount will be clearly displayed in the listing and during the request process. You'll see the deposit listed separately from your booking total so you know exactly what to expect before booking.
How the security deposit authorization works
RVezy places a temporary authorization on your payment method three days before the start of your trip to hold the security deposit. This means:
- The amount is held, not charged.
- The funds remain in your account but are unavailable to spend.
- No money is transferred to the host.
The authorization helps confirm that sufficient funds are available in case a charge is needed after the trip.
What to know about authorizations
Authorizations can affect your available balance, even though no charge is posted. Depending on your bank, the hold may appear as a pending transaction. The timing and appearance of the authorization can vary by financial institution.
If you’re using a Visa debit card, authorizations may work differently than with a credit card. Some banks treat debit authorizations as immediate withdrawals or hold the funds longer than expected. If you have questions about how an authorization appears on your account, it’s best to contact your bank directly for clarification.
When the authorization is released
The security deposit authorization is released 7 days after the trip ends, unless an insurance claim is submitted.* The funds will be released and the initial transaction will be removed from your bank statement entirely. It may take several business days for this to reflect in your account. RVezy does not control how quickly banks remove authorizations once they are released.
*If an insurance claim is submitted by the host, the security deposit amount will be captured and held towards your deductible.
