  • How to pay for your booking

Understanding how payments work helps you book with confidence and avoid surprises. RVezy processes payments securely on the platform and clearly shows when and how much you’ll be charged. This guide explains what happens when you confirm a booking and how payments are handled throughout your trip.

    Paying to confirm your booking

There are two options when sending a booking request:

    1. Providing your payment information immediately: Your card will be charged automatically once the host accepts your booking. Doing this can increase your chances of the host accepting your request, since it shows you're ready to book and have already completed the payment step.
    2. Waiting until the host accepts your request: You'll have 48 hours to provide your payment information after acceptance. Once the 48 hours have passed, the booking will expire.

Once your payment information is submitted and the booking is confirmed, your booking is secured and subject to RVezy’s cancellation policy.

    Payment schedule

Booking payments are divided into instalments based on how far in advance you book your trip:

    • If you book more than 37 days before the start of your trip:
      • An initial deposit of 25% of the total booking cost will be required to confirm your booking.
      • The remaining balance of 75% will be charged 37 days before your trip starts.*
      • The security deposit will be authorized 3 days before the start of your trip.
    • If you book 37 days or less from the start of your trip:
      • The total booking cost will be required to confirm your booking.
      • The security deposit will be authorized 3 days before the start of your trip.

*If the payment of your remaining balance fails, you will have until 30 days before the start of your trip to remedy the payment failure before your booking is cancelled.

You can view your full payment schedule at any time on the booking details page. Open your booking and click Payment details to see paid instalments, upcoming charges, and remaining balances.

    What your payment includes

Your total booking cost may include several components, depending on the listing and your selections:

    • Rental amount: The host's nightly rate multiplied by the number of nights booked.
    • Preparation fee: The host's fee to help cover the cost of sanitizing and preparing their RV before and after each rental.
    • Delivery fee (if selected): The host's fee to deliver the RV to your desired location, based on their price per mile/km or their minimum delivery fee.
    • Add-ons (if selected): The optional services or convenience items you can select to enhance your trip.
    • Protection plan: The cost of your selected protection plan, granting you coverage and roadside assistance during your rental.
    • Taxes and fees: RVezy's service fee and applicable taxes, charged based on your location. Taxes may also include a sales tax charged by the host.

All charges are shown before you confirm your booking so you know exactly what to expect.

    Payment methods

RVezy supports secure payment methods to complete your booking. For full details on available payment options, visit our dedicated article: Managing your payment methods.

    Applying a promo code

If you have a promo code, you can apply it when submitting your payment information. Enter the code in the promo code field and apply it to see the discount reflected in your total.

Promo codes must be applied before the booking is confirmed. Once a payment has been made, promo codes cannot be added or changed.

    Using RVezy credits

If you have available RVezy credits on your account, they will apply automatically to your total when submitting your payment information. The remaining amount, if any, will be charged according to our payment schedule. If you do not use all of your credits for your first payment, the remainder will automatically apply to your next payment.

Note that credits are issued in a specific currency, either USD or CAD, based on the booking where they originated. Because of this, credits can only be used on future bookings made in the same currency. You can check the currency of your credits in your account settings:

Credits cannot be used to pay for security deposits, deductibles, or post-booking charges.

    Paying outside the platform

All payments must be made through RVezy. Paying a host directly or accepting requests for off-platform payments is not allowed and may put your booking at risk.

  • Understanding RVezy's service fee for guests

The RVezy service fee, included in the total booking cost, is a percentage of the booking subtotal and varies based on factors like booking lead time and trip duration. A minimum fee applies per night: $15 for motorhomes and $10 for trailers. The fee supports platform maintenance, customer support, secure payments, and host/RV verification, ensuring a trusted marketplace. Additional post-trip charges incur a 5% transaction fee.

When you book an RV on RVezy, a service fee is included in your total booking cost. This fee helps support the platform and the services that make it easy to search, book, and manage your RV trip. This guide explains what the service fee is, how it’s calculated, and where you can see it before you book.

    How the service fee works

The service fee is charged on each confirmed booking. It is calculated as a percentage of the booking subtotal, which includes the rental amount, preparation fee, delivery fee (if applicable), add-ons (if applicable), and roadside assistance. The percentage is determined by a number of factors, including lead time to the booking, RV availability, vehicle value, and trip duration.

Additional charges requested by the host after the trip, such as damage or mileage, are subject to a 5% transaction fee. This helps cover the costs of processing these transactions between you and the host.

    Minimum service fee per night

RVezy applies a minimum service fee per night on rentals. This only applies if the calculated service fee on the rental amount falls below the minimum:

    • Motorhomes: minimum of $15 per night
    • Trailers: minimum of 10$ per night

For example, if you rent a motorhome and have a confirmed booking for $50/night for 3 nights, the percentage service fee of 20% applied is only $10, which is below the minimum. As such, the service fee would be $45 ($15/night x 3 nights).

    What the service fee covers

The service fee helps support services and features that make booking and renting an RV easy and secure, including:

    • Maintaining and improving the website and mobile app
    • Providing direct customer support
    • Managing bookings and secure payment processing
    • Verifying hosts and RVs

The service fee allows RVezy to provide a trusted marketplace for both guests and hosts.

  • Taxes for guests

Taxes on RVezy RV bookings depend on the RV's location and local regulations. In Canada, federal and provincial taxes apply variably by province, with hosts potentially charging their own sales tax. In the U.S., taxes apply to rental-related fees in specific states only; no tax is charged outside these states. Post-booking charges, except damage fees, may also incur tax.

Taxes may apply when you book an RV on RVezy, depending on where the RV is located. Tax requirements vary by location and are determined by local, provincial, state, and federal regulations. This article explains when taxes are charged and how they're calculated.

Renting an RV located in Canada

If the RV is located in British Columbia or Saskatchewan

    You'll be charged:

    • Federal tax (GST) on the RVezy service fee and protection plan
    • Provincial tax (PST) on the entire booking cost

If the host has set up a tax account to collect their own sales tax, you may also be charged the host's GST and/or PST on the rental amount, preparation fee, add-ons (if applicable), and delivery fee (if applicable).

The host sales tax also applies to post-booking charges, except damage charges.

If the RV is located in Quebec

If the host has not set up a tax account to collect their own sales tax, you'll be charged:

    • Federal tax (GST) on the RVezy service fee and protection plan
    • Provincial tax (QST) on the preparation fee, add-ons (if applicable), delivery fee (if applicable), protection plan, and RVezy service fee

If the host has set up a tax account to collect their own sales tax, you'll be charged taxes by both RVezy and the host:

    • Charged by RVezy: GST and QST on the RVezy service fee and protection plan
    • Charged by the host: GST and QST on the rental amount, preparation fee, add-ons (if applicable) and delivery fee (if applicable)

The host sales tax also applies to post-booking charges, except damage charges.

If the RV is located in any other province or territory

You'll be charged federal tax (GST) on the RVezy service fee and protection plan, based on the location of the RV you're renting.

If the host has set up a tax account to collect their own sales tax (HST, GST and/or PST), you'll also be charged the host's tax on the rental amount, preparation fee, add-ons (if applicable), and delivery fee (if applicable), based on the host's province of residence.

The host sales tax also applies to post-booking charges, except damage charges.

Renting an RV located in the United States

As an American guest, you'll be charged tax on the following items, based on the location of the RV you are renting:

    • Rental amount
    • Preparation fee
    • Add-ons (if applicable)
    • Delivery fee (if applicable)
    • Protection plan
    • RVezy service fee

Tax also applies to post-booking charges, except damage charges.

  • How the security deposit works

The security deposit is an essential part of renting an RV through RVezy, designed to protect both guests and hosts during a rental. This temporary hold on your card acts as a safeguard for potential damages or insurance claims, ensuring a smooth and secure experience for everyone involved.

    When a security deposit applies

Not all RVs require a security deposit, though most do. If a host has set a security deposit, the amount will be clearly displayed in the listing and during the request process. You'll see the deposit listed separately from your booking total so you know exactly what to expect before booking.

How the security deposit authorization works

RVezy places a temporary authorization on your payment method three days before the start of your trip to hold the security deposit. This means:

    • The amount is held, not charged.
    • The funds remain in your account but are unavailable to spend.
    • No money is transferred to the host.

The authorization helps confirm that sufficient funds are available in case a charge is needed after the trip.

    What to know about authorizations

Authorizations can affect your available balance, even though no charge is posted. Depending on your bank, the hold may appear as a pending transaction. The timing and appearance of the authorization can vary by financial institution.

If you’re using a Visa debit card, authorizations may work differently than with a credit card. Some banks treat debit authorizations as immediate withdrawals or hold the funds longer than expected. If you have questions about how an authorization appears on your account, it’s best to contact your bank directly for clarification.

    When the authorization is released

The security deposit authorization is released 7 days after the trip ends, unless an insurance claim is submitted.* The funds will be released and the initial transaction will be removed from your bank statement entirely. It may take several business days for this to reflect in your account. RVezy does not control how quickly banks remove authorizations once they are released.

*If an insurance claim is submitted by the host, the security deposit amount will be captured and held towards your deductible.

  • Managing your payment methods

RVezy allows updating payment methods for active bookings using American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Visa debit, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Changes apply only to future payments, not completed ones. Payment methods can be changed when the booking is confirmed or active, but not after completion unless a payment fails. Different cards can be used for separate payments, but splitting one payment across cards is not possible.

Keeping your payment method up to date helps ensure your booking stays on track. RVezy allows you to add, update, and switch payment methods for upcoming payments when your booking is active. This guide explains which payment methods are accepted and when changes can be made.

    Accepted payment methods

RVezy supports several secure payment options to make booking easy. You can pay using:

    • Credit cards: American Express, Visa, and MasterCard
    • Visa debit cards
    • Apple Pay
    • Google Pay

How to change your payment method

You can update your payment method from your account settings at any time while your booking is active. Once updated, the new payment method will be used for future scheduled payments.

Changes do not apply to payments that have already been processed successfully. Completed transactions cannot be modified or recharged to a different payment method.

When you can change your payment method

You can change your payment method when:

    • Your booking is confirmed, or
    • Your trip is currently active

Once a booking is completed, payment methods can no longer be changed. The only exception is if a payment fails and requires you to update your payment information to complete the outstanding charge.

    Paying with different cards

You can use different cards for different payments on the same booking by changing your payment method before the next payment is due. Each scheduled payment is processed as a single transaction.

It’s not possible to split one payment across multiple cards. For details on how instalments work and when payments are charged, review the payment schedule article: How to pay for your booking.

Managing your payment methods ahead of time helps prevent missed payments and keeps your booking moving smoothly. If you ever need to check which payment method will be used next, your booking details page has everything you need in one place.

  • Receipts and invoices

RVezy provides payment receipts via email for each transaction, including payments and refunds, detailing the amount, date, and payment method. A final invoice with booking and guest details is available after trip completion for expense reporting. Booking costs and payment info can be viewed anytime on the booking details page.

Your booking includes several payment records that are available at different stages of your trip. RVezy provides transaction receipts for each payment and a final invoice once your booking is complete.

    Payment receipts

Each time a transaction is processed, you'll receive a receipt by email from RVezy's payment processor, Stripe. A separate receipt is sent for every individual transaction, including payments and refunds.

    Each receipt includes:

    • The amount charged or refunded
    • The date and time of the transaction
    • The payment method used, including the card type

These receipts are helpful for tracking instalment payments or confirming when a charge was processed.

    Final booking invoice

A final booking invoice is only available once your trip has been completed. This invoice can be downloaded from the Booking documents section on the booking details page.

    The invoice includes:

    • Booking information, such as trip dates and RV name
    • Guest details
    • A detailed breakdown of the total amount paid

This document is often used for expense reporting or record keeping after your trip ends.

Viewing booking costs before your trip ends

If you need to review your booking costs before the trip is completed, you can find detailed payment information directly on the booking details page. The Payment details section shows exactly what's included in your booking cost, the amount paid to date, upcoming payments, and associated payment methods.

Knowing where to find receipts and invoices helps you stay organized throughout your trip. If you ever need to confirm a charge or review your costs, your booking details page and email receipts have everything you need.

  • What to do if a host requests additional charges after your trip

After a rental ends, hosts may request additional charges for reasons like excess mileage, cleaning, damages, or other costs per the listing. Requests are sent via RVezy and must be reviewed within 48 hours to avoid automatic charges. Guests can dispute charges through their RVezy account if they disagree. Prompt review and communication help resolve issues fairly.

After your rental ends, a host may request additional charges related to your booking. These requests are handled through RVezy and require your review and approval.

Why a host may request additional charges

Common reasons for additional charges include:

    • Mileage or generator usage that exceeded the included allowance
    • Cleaning or refuelling services that were not prepaid
    • Damaged-related charges that fall outside normal use
    • Other costs outlined in the listing

Hosts should only request fees that align with their listing details and the terms of your booking.

How requests for additional charges work

When a host submits a request for additional charges, you'll be notified via email and an automated message in the RVezy chat. The request will be available for your review in the booking details. If something is unclear, you can message the host directly to ask questions.

Take the time to review the following:

    • The reason provided by the host
    • The listing rules and included allowances
    • Any photos or documentation shared

Note that you have 48 hours to accept or dispute the request once it's submitted. After 48 hours have passed, you will be automatically charged.

If you disagree with the request

If you believe the request is incorrect or doesn't align with the listing, you can open a dispute. Access the booking details in your RVezy account and click on Respond at the top of the page:

On the next page, click Dispute fees. Once you confirm your selection, a dispute will be opened.

Understanding how requests for additional charges work helps you make informed decisions and avoid surprises. Reviewing requests carefully and responding promptly gives you the best chance of resolving any concerns fairly.
