  • How do I list my RV?

Listing your RV on RVezy is the first step toward your new personal business. You can make thousands of dollars renting out your unit each season, so it’s essential to set up your listing to be accurate and appealing to guests.

If you have any questions or would like some help, we’re always here to help - drop us a line here.

Here is a breakdown of everything you need to know before listing your RV, from the type of information you should provide to what you can expect in terms of insurance, pricing, availability, and every other aspect of your listing.

    Before starting

Before you begin, it’s helpful to consider a few key questions. Depending on whether you own a motorhome or a trailer, your focus will differ slightly.

If you own a motorhome, you want to think about:

    • What is the length of your motorhome?
    • What makes your motorhome special? Is it pet-friendly? Does it have an air conditioner? Do you have a backup camera?
    • Do you have six or more great exterior and interior photos?

If you own a trailer, you want to think about:

    • What is the length of your trailer?
    • What is the weight of your trailer?
    • What is the hitch weight of your trailer?
    • What is the hitch size of your trailer?
    • What makes it unique? Is it pet-friendly? What amenities does it include? Can you deliver it to a campsite or other type of destination?
    • Do you have six or more great exterior and interior photos?

As an RV host, you’ll be able to answer these questions with complete confidence as you know your unit better than anyone.

Next, there are some things you have to be aware of as a first-time host on the site:

    • Your RV is will not be published or visible to guests until you have successfully verified your account. Once your account has been verified, your RV listing will be published and will be live on the site.
    • To be covered by RVezy’s insurance, complete the insurance profile in your dashboard and ensure it is approved.
    • You need to connect your bank account using your direct deposit information to receive payments for your rentals. You can access this through your dashboard.
    • You have FULL control over your listing, which means you can accept or decline bookings as they come in or block off dates for personal use. You can set the price for each day of the calendar year ahead of time and experiment with your pricing and add-ons.

    Listing process

With all of that in mind, here is the listing process on RVezy, step by step:

    1. What kind of RV do you own?

Select the category that matches your RV type. Choose RV cottage if your motorhome or trailer is stationary and not intended to be moved. You will not be able to edit this option once your listing is published.

    • Manufacturer: Enter the manufacturer and select from the populated list.
    • Model: Enter the model name
    • Vehicle class: Select the RV class
    • Year: Enter the year the RV was manufactured. Motorhomes must be less than 15 years old, and trailers must be less than 20 years old.
    • Length (ft): Enter the length of your RV from bumper to bumper. If you don’t know the length, you can easily search for your RV specs online using the year, make, and model of your RV. In some cases, the length is included in the model name of your unit.
    • Number of slide-outs: Enter the number of slideout compartments on your unit.
    • Number of guests: Choose the maximum number of people your RV can accommodate. Keep in mind that small bunk beds or couches may not fit every adult.  Your listing description gives guests a reasonable expectation of how many adults and children can comfortably sleep in the RV.

    For trailers only:

    • Trailer weight: Enter the dry weight of your trailer (with the fuel/water/black tanks empty and without any additional equipment inside). If you're not sure what the dry weight is, you can look up the specs for your trailer make and model online.
    • Hitch weight: Enter the weight of your trailer hitch. Again, search the specs for your trailer to find this information.
    • Hitch size: Enter the size of your trailer hitch, which can also be found online if needed.

    2. Location

Provide the address where your RV is registered and located. Please note, this location is only used to populate RV search results. Your address is not disclosed to the guests until you have accepted the booking.

    Screen_Shot_2021-11-17_at_4.08.00_PM.png

    3. Amenities - Add available amenities and options

Select the amenities included with your RV. Categories include electronics, kitchen, bath, accessories, power sources, temperature, and others. This provides guests an at-a-glance overview of the features and functions of your unit.

    4. Name - Create a catchy name for your listing

When creating a name for your listing, think about what your guests are looking for and how to catch their attention. Do you offer unlimited kilometers? Is your RV the perfect family motorhome? Let them know in your title!

    5. Description - Write a nice, engaging description

This motorhome is perfect for your whole family! We provide camping chairs, a portable BBQ,  cooking pots and pans, utensils, and paper plates. There’s a full kitchen and full bathroom inside the motorhome. Our RV is pet-friendly and we love meeting your furry friends. Please let us know what we can do to make your camping trip the best ever!

The description is where you can talk about any personal policies you would like to include, recommend campgrounds, talk about pets, what else is included, and all about your unit’s amenities. You should also stress any process you keep for maintaining cleanliness and what your guests need to do to keep your unit clean.

As a trailer host, we also encourage you to include some information about the towing equipment required to tow your trailer (dry weight vs gross trailer weight, hitch size and weight, pin connector required, and any additional equipment such as brake controllers or sway bars.

Note that the description must be at least 200 characters long.

    6. Pictures - Have at least six images ready to go on your computer or phone

Try to use at least three exterior pictures and three interior pictures to show off your unit. Make sure to include the living area, bathroom, and bedroom. You can also think about the background and lighting you use when taking your pictures.

Most phones today can take amazing photos, so you can make sure you get great ones to attract attention. Take photos in landscape mode, and make sure the unit is tidy and clean. If your camera has a wide-angle feature, use this option when taking interior pictures to make small spaces appear larger.

    7. Pricing

You can rely on our suggested pricing, speak with one of our experts, or look at other units in your area to get a good idea of demand and pricing.

Suggested pricing is based on similar RVs in your area. You can determine your base nightly rate and experiment from this starting point. You want to be proactive, so make sure you fill out your calendar availability ahead of time and price dates according to the high season, particularly the holidays and long weekends.

Here are some suggestions for using our other pricing features:

    • Weekly and monthly discounts - 10% and 20%

To encourage guests to make longer bookings, providing a weekly or monthly discount rate is a great incentive and makes guests feel like they are getting good value for their money.

    • Security deposit - $1,000

The security deposit covers any additional charges the guest may incur during the trip (mileage overage, generator usage, etc.). In the event of damages or an insurance claim, the security deposit will be held by RVezy until the claim is settled.

    • Cleaning fee - $60

Select a cleaning fee to cover the time and products required to clean and sanitize your RV between rentals.

    • Mileage - Per day vs. Unlimited

You’ll want to determine what mileage your guest can put on your RV. You can set a limit for each day with an additional charge per kilometer/mile after that, or you can choose to offer unlimited mileage to attract longer rentals.

    • Generator usage

You’ll also want to determine an hourly allowance for generator use on your unit. We recommend you include a few hours per day and charge for additional usage after that. For example, you can set your generator usage to 4 hours per day, then charge an additional $5.00 per hour after that. You can buy measuring units to keep track of this, even remotely, in most hardware stores or online.

    • Delivery - Use suggested pricing

Delivery is essential for accommodating guests who don’t have a proper towing vehicle or experience pulling or setting up a trailer. Also, it can be an attractive convenience for guests who prefer to pack up the night before and depart early for their trip. Make the most of the delivery to maximize your earnings!

    • Are you a registered business looking to collect tax?

Hosts operating a registered business can select YES to collect tax on bookings made through RVezy. This will allow you to collect GST and/or PST on your rentals. If you are not a registered business, select NO.

Note: For hosts listing an RV located in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Quebec, you will only be able to collect GST. For hosts located in the United States, this functionality is currently not available. You can read this article for more information.

    Account verification

If you have not yet verified your account, you will be prompted to do so at this step. You can follow the tutorial in this article for more detailed information about how to verify your account: How do I verify my account?

If you have already verified your account, your RV listing will be published live on the site and available for guests to book - congratulations! You should expect a call from one of our onboarding specialists to answer any questions you might have.

  • Can I rent out my vehicle, car or truck with a trailer?

It is not possible to rent out a personal vehicle or truck through the RVezy platform, as our insurance coverage only extends to recreational vehicles such as trailers and motorhomes. Our platform is also limited to listing and renting out vehicles and trailers registered as "recreational".

The only exception is for truck camper hosts. When the camper is mounted on the bed of the truck, it is categorized by insurance as a class C motorhome and therefore both the truck and the camper are eligible for coverage (note: this is only when the camper is installed on the truck).

  • What are the restrictions for the year of my RV?

To create a new RVezy listing, motorized RVs should not be older than 15 years old versus the current year and trailers should not be older than 20 years old versus the current year. Existing RV listings that exceed these age restrictions will be allowed to remain on the platform.

You may be able to list an RV that exceeds these age restrictions based on additional verification steps. Contact our support team to find out.

  • What accessories or equipment should I provide to guests?

This is a very common question for many hosts. Ultimately, it's up to you as the host to decide what to include with your RV when renting it out. Well-equipped RVs are usually more popular, so we do recommend including some useful equipment and great amenities to give your guests a better rental experience.

The host is responsible for providing a weight distribution system for heavier trailers. This system helps distribute the weight evenly across the trailer and the towing vehicle, ensuring better stability and control during towing. Additionally, the host should also provide an electric brake controller for trailers equipped with electric brakes. This controller allows the driver to activate the trailer brakes independently, enhancing safety and control while braking. Lastly, the host should supply sway bars, which are devices that help reduce trailer sway or side-to-side movement, further improving towing stability. These provisions by the host are essential to ensure a safe and smooth towing experience for heavier trailers with electric brakes.

When it comes to providing amenities for your guests, there are a few essentials that we highly recommend including:

    • Bedding & linens: Ensure that your guests have comfortable and clean bedding and linens to make their stay more enjoyable.
    • Dishes & utensils: Stock your rental with a variety of dishes and utensils to allow your guests to prepare and enjoy meals during their stay.
    • RV toilet paper: It's important to provide RV-specific toilet paper to avoid any plumbing issues. Make sure to inform your guests about this requirement.

However, don't limit yourself to just the essentials. You can go above and beyond by offering additional amenities that can enhance your guests' experience and make your rental stand out. In the "Add-ons" section of your listing, you have the option to charge extra for these special amenities. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Portable generators: If your rental is located in an area with limited access to electricity, providing a portable generator can be a valuable amenity for your guests.

BBQs: Many travelers enjoy outdoor cooking during their trips. Offering a BBQ grill can be a great addition to your rental, allowing guests to enjoy delicious grilled meals.

Board games: Providing a selection of board games can be a fun way for guests to spend time together and create memorable moments during their stay.

Remember, the key is to get creative and think about what your potential guests would enjoy. Offering unique and thoughtful amenities can make your rental more appealing and increase guest satisfaction.
